So many things, so little time!

Celebrations

On Wednesday the 12th, Wizards participated in the Cultivating Sustainable Pathways Kick-Off conference.  We were able to Zoom with student activists & leaders from Harwood Highschool (many of whom were former Wizards!)  Our students engaged in discourse around the Global Goals and learned about previous projects that have been a direct result of students attending this conference in the past.  We are hoping this event will launch us into some yet to be determined projects based on the students' passions and interests around the various Global Goals.

Nuts & Bolts

A Wizard tradition returns! On October 22, we will have our Fall Field Day. It's like a stay at school field trip;)  On this day we will play outdoor games, carve pumpkins, and have a team picnic.  We are hoping you will help supply some needed items to help make this day successful.  Here is the sign-up genius for the event.  We are also asking that students who are able to, bring in $5 to cover the cost of pizza that day.  If you can send in the money prior to Thursday, October 21st, that would be great! Students can also choose to just get school lunch if they prefer.

Virtual Back to School Night

This year our students took the lead on putting together videos about what it's like to be on the Wizard's team.  Pop some popcorn, sit down with your kids and enjoy their videos. If you have further questions about anything you hear in the videos then that is a great opportunity to ask your child to tell you more.  Click here to access the link.  PS- The guest password is "Wizards21" As always, feel free to reach out to us if you do have specific questions you would like answered.

Science

The kids are in their final design and build phase for their solar "houses." Here are some pics of them in full engineering mode.:)

Language Arts

We are currently wrapping up Ghost Boys. Here's a great conversation starter: Ask your child how their perspective on racial bias has changed over the course of our novel study. What have they learned about it?

Students continue to work on the skill of defending their thinking both in discussions and when writing. If you ask to see their reading notebooks,  you will find several rubrics stapled to entires. This will give you an idea of how your child is progressing toward the expectations. You will also be able to see some of the feedback I've given them. Please note though that I conference with students frequently as they work and give constant verbal feedback on all the things they are doing right and areas for improvement.

Math

This week students finished the culminating project investigating the sugar content of drinks.   Students were tasked with taking their math research and creating something that could be shared to educate others about the amount of sugar in drinks and the risks these sugary drinks pose to our health.
