Welcome to Team Wizards

Welcome to team Wizards!  We hope you and your student are feeling energized for the upcoming school year.  This time of year is very exciting as we begin our work building relationships and working together as a team so that we can all learn together.  In order to spend more time getting to know your student at Connection Conferences and less time answering commonly asked questions, we want to provide you with the following information.

Important Upcoming Dates

New Student Orientation:  Please join us on Wednesday, August 24 from 5:30-6:30 to visit our school, our team space, and Ms. Michael and Ms. Anderman, your Wizard teachers.  The evening begins at 5:50 in the CBMS cafeteria with a welcome message from Mr. Drake.

Connection Conferences:  On Thursday, August 25th we will be holding Connection Conferences with families.  You and your child will be meeting with both of us, your child’s core teachers (Ms. Michael & Ms. Anderman) during these conferences.  The purpose of these meetings is to get to learn a little bit about your child.

In preparation, we ask that you let your child know that we will be discussing the following as a way to get to know them a little...

  • Show and tell.  Bring an object from home and explain why it's important to you.

  • What was a highlight of your summer?

  • What went well in 4th grade? What was a challenge?

Conferences are 15 minutes long. We will be doing our very best to stay on time!

**It seems that all of our times that day have filled up already! If you are one of the 5 families that didn't get a spot that day, please email us and we will work with you to fit you in at another time.**

First Day of School:

Students should go directly to the Wizard's classrooms. There will be plenty of adults meeting students to help them find our classrooms. Once on the wing, Ms. Michael and Ms. Anderman will let students know which homeroom to go to. From there we will guide your student through the rest of their day. We will provide time for breakfast and snack. Breakfast is provided by the school but students who wish to eat a snack should pack something from home. Students should bring a snack, water bottle, independent reading book, and shoes for PE. (Most of their school supplies stay in their backpack and they won't need them until the second week of school, so it's their choice whether to carry them in for that first week.)

Daily Schedule (Subject to change)

**Please note that we do our AM snack/recess time OUTSIDE, YEAR ROUND! Students should come prepared with the proper clothing and layers for whatever the weather throws our way. :)

Homework
The ONLY homework your child will have on our team will be to read for about 20 minutes a day.  At a later time, we will explain our rationale for this.  Ms. Michael will work throughout the year to make sure students have a "just right" book that they can read at home.
Occasionally, students who miss class due to a band lesson or illness MIGHT be asked to complete work at home if they are unable to find time during the school day to make it up.

Communication

The easiest way to communicate with us is via email. We believe that communication between home and school is a vital part of helping all students be successful. We can be reached using the emails below.

Melinda Anderman: manderman@huusd.org

Tiffany Michael: tmichael@huusd.org

We recommend including both teachers when you email us. Although it is likely only one teacher will respond, please note that we both read and discuss emails from families. We will be communicating with you via Powerschool. PLEASE BE SURE TO REGISTER YOUR STUDENT AND INCLUDE ALL EMAIL ADDRESSES THAT YOU WISH TO RECEIVE BOTH SCHOOL AND WIZARD COMMUNICATIONS. If you haven't already registered your student and you have a PowerSchool account, you can click HUUSD's PowerSchool Parent Portal to register. Please email Meg Libby, mlibby@huusd.org, if you need help registering.

We are excited for the upcoming weeks as we get to know our students and begin building our new team.

Ms. Anderman & Ms. Michael
