An Awesome Trip to the Audubon!

Last week we had our very first field trip of the year!  At the last minute, Mother Nature granted us a mostly rain-free morning and the kids had a blast. On the trip, we were working on teambuilding skills all while learning some essential survival skills.  To begin the day, they had to put their heads together to determine what items they needed to pack in order to survive the elements. In one activity, students then built shelters.  During another, they learned the different types of fire structures, chose a type to build, and attempted to get their wood & kindling to catch fire.  Ask your child about the Rule of 3s. How long can you survive without shelter? Water? Food?  (Hopefully, they remember!)

When we debriefed the next day, we asked the students what skills they used during their activities at the Audubon that we could transfer into the classroom setting.  Here's some of what they said:

Flexibility, Teamwork, Staying calm, Communication, Problem Solving, Kindness, Helping each other

Enjoy the pictures and determine for yourself if you can see any of these things happening! :)
