Upcoming Events and Step-up Day

 Dear Wizard Families,

First off, we want to remind you about two upcoming events.

Team Breakfast

Date: Thursday, June 18

Time:  9:00 - 11 AM Drop by for a few minutes or stay for a while.  The team breakfast will end with an awards ceremony. This is a Wizard tradition where students present awards to one another.

Food Sign-ups:  Next Monday - Wednesday, your student MAY check in with you about bringing in an item for our team breakfast.  These items must be finger foods such as muffins. We are also requesting fruit and juice.  Your student should be checking in with you about what they want to bring, and then your student will sign up on Wednesday once they've checked in with you.  Students do not have to sign up to bring anything.  It's a breakfast potluck so we always have plenty of food.

Food Truck Festival

On Thursday, June 11th from 11:50 -1:15 Wizards will be hosting a Literary Food Truck Festival. You are all invited to attend. You can pop in for as much or as little time as you have.

Students have been hard at work creating their final projects for our most recent Language Arts unit. It has been so much fun and super engaging. We are really looking forward to this event.

Though the trucks, as you will see, are largely metaphorical, some students have opted to bring actual food in from their "menu." If your student is asking you about providing food for their truck, please know that they only need to bring in enough for about a dozen people. However, they can bring more if they want. I've talked with the kids about also being mindful of bringing what they need to serve items such as cups, forks, etc... During the festival, the students will have "meal tickets" to "purchase" real food from the vendors who have brought food in to share.

We hope you can join us, and if not, we'll post lots of pictures so you can see their creativity.:)

If you have any questions or plan to come to either of the above events, please RSVP to Ms. Michael at tmichael@huusd.org.

Step-up Day

Today your students "stepped up" and became 6th graders!  We are very happy to be continuing their learning journey with them.  We have loved learning and laughing with your students while also supporting and witnessing their growth. Today, during Step-up Day, we had a "ceremony" complete with a "commencement speech."  Wizards walked through the portal (hula hoop) and became 6th graders on the other side!  Read the commencement speech below and enjoy some pictures from the event.

Good afternoon, wonderful Wizards!

Over the past year, you have conquered tough math equations, written incredible stories, read countless books, and developed new friendships. You have demonstrated both kindness and curiosity. Together, you have made magic happen right here in the fifth grade.

But today, the magic is changing. You are officially stepping out of 5th. Today you will enter the portal that will transport you into 6th grade where your magic will continue to grow.

Wizards don’t back down when a problem gets tough—we combine our skills and figure out the formula. Wizards don't let a mistake ruin our day—we treat it as a bumpy first draft that teaches us how to do better next time. And most importantly, true wizards always look out for their community. We lift each other up. We choose kindness. We jump in and help. Most of all, we celebrate our unique strengths.

As you cast your sights on sixth grade, carry your curiosity, your brilliant minds, and your big hearts with you. You don't need to worry about the future, because you already possess all the Wizard magic you need to conquer next year.

Congratulations, fifth graders! Keep your wands high, and let's make sixth grade absolutely legendary!

Students interested in applying to be a tour guide for the incoming 5th graders were asked to submit applications.  Selected students helped welcome the incoming 5th graders by showing them around the school.
